12 Sep Tips for Board Member Success
While many board members won’t have experience that has prepared them for their role, there are many resources available that can aid in their success. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by your responsibilities, try one of these two tools that are at your fingertips.
- Your Community Association Manager has years of experience and has worked with board members with all levels of experience. The manager should be able to provide you with knowledgeable answers to any questions you may have. If they do not know the answer, they will have plenty of resources at their disposal to find out for you. Your management team is there to support board member and community needs and as such should be used as a learning tool.
- As a member of an industry organization such as California Associations Institute (CAI®) or California Association of Community Managers (CACM®), you have access to online resources, educational events, and more. By taking an active approach to learning, the Board will be able to better serve the community and have an easier time with their responsibilities. Membership should be included in your association’s budget to ensure that board members are able to stay current on best practices and laws affecting HOAs. These organizations are such a valuable resource for association’s that even our managers are members.
Work with your management team to get your Board registered with CACM® or CAI® so that you can take advantage of these easy to use educational resources.
